Virtualise and Containerise Now: A Case Study in Moving to Docker/Kubernetes

The original version of FOODit was built by a team of contractors on top of the Google AppEngine platform. After working with the platform for a couple of years, the development team decided to move away from AppEngine and into a microservice solution using Docker and Kubernetes. This talk will cover the problems we encountered using a platform as a service, how we overcame these challenges, and the unexpected benefits we discovered during the transition.

Dan is the creator of the open source mobile automation framework Appium, Principal Development Manager at FOODit in London. Previously, he headed the test organisation at Shazam in London and Zoosk in San Francisco, and worked as a software engineer on Microsoft Outlook for Mac, and other products in the Microsoft Office suite.
